Friends of Bittell

The Friends of Bittell are a passionate group of individuals who care about our local SSSI (Site of Special Scientific Interest) and the wildlife found within the Estate.

We welcome new members who will enjoy and help conserve our Estate and would enjoy meeting like-minded individuals.

The Bittell reservoirs comprise of Upper Bittell, Lower Bittell and Mill Shrub, they form the largest area of open water in the county and represent one of the most important sites in the West Midlands for the passage of wintering waders, as well as other waterfowl and with over 200 species recorded.

The reservoirs are surrounded by a diversity of marginal communities including a rare silt shoreline community in the draw-down zone of Upper Bittell. The invertebrate fauna of the site is likewise rich and includes 5 species of dragonfly. The rare mud snail Lymnaea glabra also occurs.

As a member you will have access to restricted areas of the Estate, use of the toilet facilities at the clubhouse and have opportunities to join in work parties, ecological surveys, and social events.
